a journey to the world’s great apes
I’ve spent time with mountain gorillas in the forests of Rwanda and travelled to Borneo twice to find wild orangutans. Few encounters have stayed with me like these. Look into the eyes of a great ape and the distance between us all but disappears.
Primate Trails is my series of small-group, photographer-led journeys to our closest relatives: western lowland gorillas in the Congo Basin, mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in Rwanda and Uganda, and orangutans in Borneo. They are slow, quiet and respectful, built around good light, expert trackers and unhurried time in the forest. Our first departure is the Congo Basin in October 2027, and I will be there with you.

Mornings begin in the hush before dawn, the air thick with the scent of the wild. In the distance, hyenas call, and the soft rustle of the bush signals the start of another untold story. As the bush stirs to life, shadows move through the golden grass—leopards slip through the golden grass, wild dogs move in formation, and a herd of elephants silently crosses your path. Walking safaris here aren’t just an activity—they’re a deeper way to connect with nature.
